• Everyone's pain tolerance varies. What may be uncomfortable for one person could be a painless experience for another. However, the majority of patients report minimal to no pain during an acupuncture session.

The sensation felt during acupuncture is often described as a slight tingling, heaviness, or dull ache around the area where the thin needles are inserted. This sensation, known as "De Qi," signifies that the acupuncture point is being stimulated effectively.

The needles used in acupuncture are incredibly thin, much finer than the hypodermic needles commonly associated with injections. In fact, several acupuncture needles can fit inside one hypodermic needle. This thinness contributes significantly to the overall comfort of the treatment.

To ensure the utmost levels of comfort, it is crucial to communicate openly with your acupuncturist. They will address any concerns you may have, adjust techniques accordingly, and prioritize your comfort throughout the entire session.

  • Acupuncture is a highly individualized form of therapy, and the number of sessions required can vary significantly from person to person. The complexity and duration of your condition, your overall health, and how your body responds to acupuncture are all crucial factors in determining the number of sessions needed. Additionally, your goals, whether it's pain management, stress relief, or overall wellness, will also influence the treatment plan.

Acute conditions might require fewer sessions, often ranging from one to six treatments, depending on the severity and individual response.

Chronic or long-standing ailments may require a more extended treatment course, which could range from eight to twelve (or more) sessions.

Acupuncture typically follows a cumulative effect, meaning that with each session, the effects tend to build on the previous ones. Initially, treatments may be scheduled more closely together, often weekly or bi-weekly. As your condition improves, the frequency of sessions may decrease.

While an estimated range can be provided, your individual response and progress will ultimately guide the course of treatment. The aim of acupuncture is to restore balance and stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms, and this may occur at different rates for each person. My goal is to provide you with the highest level of care tailored to your specific needs. I encourage open communication throughout the treatment process, allowing us to make adjustments to your treatment plan as necessary.

I’m happy to accept out-of-network PPO plans that cover acupuncture.

  • During an acupuncture appointment at Wise Ways Acupuncture, the patient can expect a calm and soothing environment that promotes relaxation and healing. When you arrive, we will start by reviewing your symptoms and medical history. With your permission, I will feel your pulses, look at your tongue and feel your abdomen.

I choose acupuncture points based on the your condition and the desired therapeutic effect. It is always encouraged to tell me if something feels uncomfortable or if you wish to not have needles in a particular body part. This is your treatment!

Once the needles are inserted, you will rest with them in for 30-45 minutes. During this time folks often feel very relaxed and fall asleep. If you’re feeling uncomfortable for any reason during the treatment, please let me know! We can always adjust or shorten the resting time.

  • WWA’s out-of-pocket rate is $95/session

Each week, there are 3 sliding-scale appointments available. These are $50-95/session. If you feel like you would like to use one of these sessions, please let me know when scheduling.
